In the 1920 s he formed the Progressive Party and ran for President. Tens of thousands of Americans left both parties at this same time and formed the American Socialist Party. When the Republican Party swings way over to the right and sells itself to corporate America like it did during the Gay '90 s of the late 1880 s or like it's done recently, and refuses to stand up for the American people, the moderates and free thinking members abandon ship.
