I just returned from a trip to Lawrence Massachusetts in secarh of information on my ancestry, specifically a grandfather who was in the early years of the American industrial revolution, specifically in Lawrence's textile mill development. Wanted to recommend to ANYONE that a trip to this authentic, historic site is a must-see to understand the evolution of the textile/clothing industry in our country. 10 year old workers, no schooling requirements, non-english speaking immigrants recruited from the old country to do dirty, dangerous work for unliveable wages, on and on. Oh but also see some of the most amazing, massive industrial factory architecture in the US built by many of the same European immigrant craftsmen. It put our present-day clothing industry in perspective for me.
