RoschierRaidla publishes handbook on competition law in the Baltic Sea region

Today saw the publication of the RoschierRaidla Competition Law Handbook for the EU and Nordic-Baltic Area. Written by specialists from RoschierRaidla, the book examines issues related to competition law in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland and Sweden and in the European Union generally, providing companies with an excellent overview of the most important competition law matters affecting the region.

“It’s an unrivalled source of information on the rules and regulations of competition for business people whose operations take in the wider Baltic region in addition to Estonia,” says Raino Paron, a partner at the law firm Raidla & Partners. “It is designed to introduce the fundamentals of competition law in the European Union as well as those countries where RoschierRaidla is primarily based – Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. It focuses on the kind of issues that we feel are most important in the everyday work of our clients.”“The book will provide company managers with the help and information they need to do business outside their own country – what the general frameworks are like for competition law, what is similar between countries and what is different,” explains Tanel Kalaus, an attorney-at law with Raidla & Partners and one of the authors of the handbook. “In it we focus on prohibitions against agreements restricting competition and abuse of dominant position and issues related to concentrations of undertakings. I’m sure the book will be useful to anyone who wants to keep up to date on competition law in the region or who has or is about to have questions or problems related to competition law.”The handbook was written by competition law specialists of each country, members of the RoschierRaidla EU & Competition Law Practice Group. The practice group brings together attorneys from the following law firms throughout the region: Raidla & Partners (Estonia), Lejins, Torgans & Partners (Latvia), Norcous & Partners (Lithuania) and Roschier, Attorneys Ltd. (Finland and Sweden). The need for such a handbook arose from the ever increasing amount of cross-border transactions being performed and the need of companies related to this to keep up to speed every day not only with the competition law of their own countries but also that of the Baltic Sea region as a whole. The handbook can be ordered by contacting Raidla & Partners by e-mail at [email protected] & Partners was founded in 1993. For the last ten years it has been one of the two largest law firms in Estonia. Raidla & Partners has been providing legal services under the joint RoschierRaidla trademark and concept with Roschier, Attorneys Ltd. in Finland, Lejins, Torgans & Partners in Latvia and Norcous & Partners in Lithuania since 1 May 2004.
